National Institute of Standards

The NIST or National Institute of Standards and Technology purports the following claim on their website:

“The National Institute of Standards and Technology promotes U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life.”

The NIST does a great job in the measurement sciences. Undoubtedly, some very accomplished, hard-working, and well-meaning people work at NIST in the area of measurement sciences and standards.

Unfortunately, the NIST has the word “technology” there for some reason, not related to what many people nowdays consider the word technology means, such as but not limited to the Internet, robotics, artificial intelligence, etc.

Interestingly our NIST was founded in 1901. Presently, it is part of our U.S. Department of Commerce. So while NIST is one of the nation’s oldest physical science laboratories, a lot has changed since 1901 in the area of technology!

A forthcoming Department of Technology can cooperate, advise, and rejuvenate our NIST to become more modern, efficient, and prepared for our Fouth Industrila Revolution.

More information is coming soon!
